Resolutions Never Work

Here comes 2012 and once again, thousands of people will sit down and make up resolutions for the New Year.Over 24 million resolutions are posted somewhere on the internet. Most of them will involve things like losing weight, personal finance, and relationships. But the fact is that New Year Resolutions really are destined to fail. Why? Because they are goals without a plan.Resolutions help us set our goals, but they are not specific enough.

Why Resolutions Don't Work

  1. You made the decision to change without any plan-You might have said "I need To lose weight"or "I need to get out of debt" But without a plan and a goal in mind, the fact is you will simply flounder.
  2. You are focusing on what you really don't like about yourself or your life. Focusing on the negative of your life really onl,y makes you feel bad about yourself Focusing on the negative will never help you change a thing. Your guilt will overpower your need to change
  3. You start off with a bang , then your motivation dies out Without a plan and specific goals, you will flounder and get frustrated. Nothing will get accomplished except that you will have more guilt and negativity about yourself.
  4. Your resolution is based on the exspectation of others, rather than what you really want for yourself. Measuring up to the standards of what others believe you should be, rather than what you want for yourself is guaranteed to be set in failure.
  5. You haven't really made the committement to your change. You know the thing needs to change, but you honestly don't feel committed to it. Unless you have a firm belief that the change really needs to happen, guess what it never will

Make Goals Not Resolutions

If you really want to accomplish something this year, you need to start by making specific goals. Each of these goals must be achieveable, believeable, be planned and have a specific time frame

Goal Must Be Achieveable-Never set a goal that can't be reached ! For example, if you are in debt for $20,000 getting debt free in a month would not be achieveable. Losing 200 lbs in 6 months would not be achieveable. Select a goal but remember to be realistic. Setting a goal that is uinreachable sets you up for failure.

Goal Must Beleveable-You must believe totally in the goal that you set for youself. Buying into your goal is crutial, if you are going to succeed. Just saying it, does not make it happen. So many say that they want to lose weight, but haven't committed to it and then they fail. Yo yo dieting is the effect of not believing in a goal. You must buy into every goal that you set

Planning Your Goal Nothing that is ever successful is achieved without a plan. A plan is simply a step by step outline on how something is going to happen. If you are going to lose weight , for example, you need to decide on a diet, plan your meals, buy the foods that you need and get an exercise program. Each one of these steps would have a plan to get the goal done.Planning is as important as setting the goal itself.

Setting a time Frame For Your Goal This step gives your goal a goal. Setting a time frame actually will help you achieve more than you thought possible.Saying that you want to achieve something but not saying when, leaves your goal vague. Setting a time to achieve your goal will help you move towards success faster and with better results.
